Workshop Description:

The majority of individuals struggling with substance use disorders have concurrent mental health disorders, and many of these individuals also struggle with comorbid physical health disorders. This complex interplay of comorbidities often present as some of the most complicated and difficult-to-treat cases. While integrated, concurrent disorders treatment is key for successful outcomes, our health services are often fragmented and compartmentalized. Our most vulnerable are the least likely to get access to physical and mental health care, including psychological care. These clients highly benefit from psychology services; however, psychologists face numerous challenges providing them comprehensive care. This workshop will include both didactic and interactive learning components to promote best practices for concurrent disorders care within psychological services. We will address the important question of: “How can psychologists help bridge the gap in providing care to those with substance use and mental health problems?”
